Fundamental introduction to the employer role
As a manager at Lund University, you have three roles – employer, leader, and organisational manager. This course mainly covers the responsibilities linked to your role as an employer.
The course is to increase managers’ knowledge and awareness of what a management position involves and contribute to creating conditions for an attractive workplace with a sustainable work environment. The course will introduce managers to the essential knowledge and contain information about the support that is available and where you can find it.
Content
Module 1: The employer role (7 September, 09:00-12:00)
The course provides an introduction to being an employer at the University and in the public sector. We cover the responsibilities and obligations that are part of the employer role and the support that is available to you as a manager.
Module 2: Basis in labour law (21 September 09:00-12:00)
The course gives a brief run through of the basis in labour law for your duties in the role as employer: legislation, agreements, negotiations etc. We cover roles and responsibilities, and the support that is available to you as a manager.
Module 3: SAM, OSA, SFAD (10 October, 09:00-12:00)
The course introduces the concepts of systematic work environment management (Swedish abbreviation, SAM), organisational and social work environment (Swedish abbreviation, OSA), and systematic preventive work against discrimination (Swedish abbreviation, SFAD). We cover roles and responsibilities, and the support that is available to you as a manager.
Please note that you must complete all the modules in the course.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the participants will have basic knowledge on the following components:
- The employer role, obligations and responsibilities
- Being a manager at LU
- Being a manager in the public sector
- Collective agreements
- Terms of employment
- Negotiations in compliance with Swedish Employment (Co-Determination in the Workplace) Act (MBL)
- Negligence
- Redundancy
- Recruitment
- What systematic work environment management entails
- How incidents and occupational injuries are reported and managed
- The way in which the organisational and social work environment is included in systematic work environment management
- What is entailed in working systematically and preventively against discrimination.
